... I may even go so far as to say "summer" on that one. The sun is shining, the weather is warm, the sky is blue... I see now why it's been so cold on Sakhalin. Vlad's been hoarding all the nice weather.
Incidentally, I may or may not have received a transfer at the end of last week. My dreams of being Eternal Junior Companion have officially been crushed. They gave me a cell phone and a set of keys, hauled Sister Kovalevskaya off to the airport, and insisted that I hang around and finish training Sister Tolmachova. The only question here is, finish what training? She's already more capable and responsible than I ever was (or am, for that matter). Maybe it comes with already knowing the language. ... Or maybe she's just more responsible than I am. Either way. Should be fun. Sister Tolmachova is from somewhere in the Rostov mission, and is officially on my list of Amazingly Cool People because she's also a Linguistics major. She's actually finished her degree though, so I guess that means I can't go around pretending like I'm the Official Language Expert anymore. At least not in her presence, anyway. Bummer. On the plus side though, I'm no longer the Official Language Expert and therefore I can refer any and all language-related questions to her. Hooray!
For the record, I was all set up and ready to send more pictures today, but then the computer wouldn't cooperate. So if for some reason you're feeling particularly bereft of photos, well... blame the Russians.
Incidentally, last week we (being those currently located in Vlad) had another half a baptism of what has got to be the Most Golden Investigator Ever. He came to English Club one night, agreed to stick around afterwards for a lesson with us, felt the Spirit immediately recognized it, offered to pray himself, and basically committed himself to everything before we'd even thought about teaching it to him. Oh man. My life is once again complete. And as for the half-a-baptism... well... it was a full baptism and confirmation. Really. I just wasn't here for the last three weeks of the teaching, or for the actual baptism itself. But still. It happened, and I am more than just a little okay with that.
In any case, my life is still full of the every-day hilarious moments that make life... hilarious on a mission. Yesterday as I was talking to the Zone Leader to report our weekly numbers, I could hear him in the background speaking to his companion thus: "Are you done showering already? You are? Did you use soap? No? [very very very very very very motherly sigh here] Next time you need to remember to use soap." Oh man. I laughed for a very long time about that one. I just wish I'd recorded it. Then I'd show it to his mother and congratulate her on a job well done. Life on a mission never gets old, for the record.
But. That's all you get today. Maybe next week I'll write you a novel. And maybe not. I think I may be headed to Korea sometime in the very near future, but I'm not entirely sure when. Time has all sort of run together in my head. If so, welp, guess you'll get to hear about it (Korea, that is. I don't think there's more I can say about how time has gone all crazy on me). If not, welp. That too.
Anyway, I love you all, stay safe, have a good week, and try not to get stuck outside the Ark.
-Sister Read.
